Get ready for a thrilling new chapter in the Doctor Who universe! A spin-off series titled "The War Between the Land and the Sea" has been announced, set to star Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The series, created by Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, promises to shake the Whoniverse to its core.

Joining Tovey and Mbatha-Raw are Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient, reprising their roles as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Colonel Ibrahim, respectively. Redgrave, a familiar face in the Doctor Who universe as the daughter of the iconic Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, will once again lead UNIT, the organization dedicated to defending humanity against extraterrestrial threats.

The plot takes a dramatic turn when a terrifying and ancient species emerges from the depths of the ocean, revealing themselves to humanity and plunging the world into chaos. The series centers around UNIT's efforts to protect the planet from this formidable new enemy.

Davies, known for his innovative and captivating storytelling in Doctor Who, has co-written the series with Pete McTighe, another veteran Doctor Who writer. Speaking about the project, Davies expressed excitement about the cast, describing it as "magnificent" and emphasizing the series' "huge, muscular, thrilling drama."

Lindsay Salt, director of drama at the BBC, echoed Davies' enthusiasm, describing the series as "utterly unique and gripping" and highlighting the "stellar cast" and "epic mini-series" that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.

Filming for "The War Between the Land and the Sea" is set to begin next month, with Dylan Holmes-Williams, known for directing episodes of Doctor Who, at the helm.

The series will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and will be available on Disney+ outside the UK.
