Coronation Street's Beth Tinker Bids Farewell: Lisa George Exits Weatherfield

Coronation Street viewers are saying goodbye to a familiar face as Lisa George, who has portrayed Beth Tinker for 13 years, prepares to depart the ITV soap. Her exit, which had been the subject of much speculation, was confirmed on Wednesday (August 28) during an appearance on This Morning.

Speaking about her upcoming exit for the first time, George shared her feelings with This Morning hosts Craig Doyle and Sian Welby: "It's strange. I don't think it's sunk in yet. I don't think it will until I'm not on screen anymore. The fact that Friday will be my last scenes, I think then it will start to sink in..."

The actress, who has garnered a loyal fanbase during her time on Corrie, expressed her gratitude to viewers for their support: "Thank you for having me – and a special thank you to all of the Corrie fans for your support and love over the past 13 years. It means more to me than you will ever know."

Fans were quick to respond to George's message, sharing their own well wishes and expressing their sadness at her departure. Many highlighted their favourite moments featuring Beth and wished her the best in her future endeavours.

As for her exit storyline, Beth's involvement in a dodgy side hustle has ultimately led to her departure. She was caught using Underworld's equipment to sew logos onto counterfeit T-shirts, a venture she attempted to keep under wraps but was eventually discovered by DS Lisa Swain's daughter Betsy, who was on work experience at the factory.

Despite attempts to keep her illegal enterprise a secret, Beth's involvement in the counterfeiting operation came to light, placing her in a precarious position. Her association with the dubious police officer Kit Green further complicated matters. Green, who was secretly involved in the counterfeit T-shirt business with Sid, threatened Beth to protect his own interests. He blackmailed her, threatening to expose Craig Tinker's involvement in covering up Faye Windass and Emma Brooker's hit-and-run in 2021 if Beth did not remain silent about his illegal activities.

The pressure ultimately became too much for Beth, leading her to decide to leave Weatherfield in order to protect Craig. Her departure marks the end of an era for the character, who has been involved in numerous memorable storylines and brought a unique energy to the show. While viewers will undoubtedly miss her presence on the cobbles, they wish Lisa George all the best in her future ventures.
