Focus Features has released the trailer for "Conclave," an upcoming thriller set in the hallowed halls of the Vatican. Adapted from Robert Harris's novel, the film delves into the clandestine world of papal elections, promising a thrilling tale of ambition, intrigue, and hidden truths.

The story unfolds in the wake of the unexpected death of the Pope. As cardinals gather from around the world to choose his successor, a tense atmosphere descends upon the Vatican. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes), burdened with the responsibility of overseeing this centuries-old process, finds himself at the heart of a complex web of power and deception.

The trailer hints at a battle for the papacy, with Cardinal Bellini (Stanley Tucci) vying for the position against the formidable Cardinal Tremblay (John Lithgow). Sister Agnes (Isabella Rossellini), a key figure in the election process, adds another layer of intrigue to the proceedings.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Sergio Castellitto, Lucian Msamati, Brian F. O'Byrne, and Carlos Diehz. The trailer offers glimpses of the tense negotiations, veiled threats, and simmering ambition that define the cardinals' quest for power.

As Cardinal Lawrence struggles to maintain order amidst the mounting pressure, Bellini warns him, "It is a war, and you have to commit to a side." The trailer culminates with Cardinal Lawrence facing a pivotal decision, the weight of the church's future resting on his shoulders.

"Conclave" is directed by Edward Berger, whose previous work, "All Quiet on the Western Front," earned him an Oscar for Best International Feature Film. The film's screenplay is penned by Peter Straughan, known for his work on "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy." The evocative score is composed by Volker Bertelmann, who previously collaborated with Berger on "All Quiet on the Western Front."

With stunning cinematography by Stéphane Fontaine and production design by Suzie Davies, "Conclave" promises a visually captivating and suspenseful experience. The film will be released in limited theaters on November 1st and nationwide on November 8th. It is also expected to be featured at various Fall film festivals.
