Clueless Star's Fruit Feast Sparks Toxicity Fears

Alicia Silverstone has sparked concern among fans after posting a TikTok video of herself consuming a fruit found growing in the UK, which many commenters have identified as a potentially toxic species.

The 47-year-old actress, known for her role in the iconic film *Clueless*, shared a video on 19 August showing a small, brightly coloured orange fruit she had discovered while out and about.

"I've discovered something that I can't figure out what it is and I need your help," she says in the video, revealing the seed-filled interior of the fruit. "I just bit into it because it was on the street and we were discussing whether this was tomato or not," she explains before dropping the fruit to the ground.

She goes on to describe the plant, stating, "It’s definitely not" a tomato, and panning the camera to show the dense foliage behind a fence. "Look at these leaves. Those are the leaves. So what the heck is this? Because when you open it up, it looks like that," Silverstone shares, gesturing to the scattered seeds.

The actress then takes a bite of the fruit, admitting, "If I bite it – I don’t think you’re supposed to eat this. But it’s almost like a pepper. Does anyone know what this is?"

Social media users quickly identified the fruit as a Jerusalem cherry, which according to the Northern New England Poison Center, is "harmful to eat."

Ingesting small amounts of the berries or leaves may cause nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea, the organisation warns. Consuming larger quantities could lead to drowsiness, hallucinations, and even heart rate problems.

Plantura, a gardening website, describes the Jerusalem cherry as containing a "poisonous alkaloid" that is "toxic." They state that while the poison is not life-threatening, it can be "extremely unpleasant."

Silverstone has not updated her social media since posting the video, prompting numerous concerned comments from followers. Many have expressed worries, asking "Is Alicia ok??? We need an update!"

PEOPLE has reached out to the actress' representatives for an update on her condition but has not yet received a response.
