Channel 4 Brings Paralympics to Life with Snapchat AR

Channel 4 and Snapchat are set to launch an immersive augmented reality (AR) experience on the broadcaster's Snapchat profile for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Fans will be able to virtually step into the heart of the action in the French capital, trying out various Paralympic events through AR, including archery and athletics.

This innovative feature leverages a specially designed Snapchat Lens, an AR experience that overlays 3D Paralympic imagery, venues, and sporting equipment onto the real world. Users can interact with these digital elements, gaining a unique perspective on the Games.

Beyond the interactive AR experience, Channel 4's Snapchat profile will feature daily highlights from the Paralympic Games, alongside content from the popular show *The Last Leg*. Adam Hills, Alex Brooker, and Josh Widdicombe will be live in Paris, offering their signature witty commentary on the day's events.

Matt Risley, Managing Director of 4Studio, commented: "Channel 4 has a long history of pioneering new technologies, from digital TV to streaming. Our augmented reality experience with Snapchat for the Paralympic Games gives everyone the chance to put themselves in the shoes of a Paralympian, bringing them closer to the Paralympic experience than ever before."

Lucy Luke, Head of UK Partnerships at Snapchat, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: "It's been an incredible summer of sport on Snapchat, and we're excited to see this momentum continue with the Paralympic Games. The AR experiences we've built with Channel 4 will provide a totally new and unique way for fans to engage with the Games – perhaps even inspiring future athletes for 2028."

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are set to be Channel 4's most extensive broadcast yet, with over 1,300 hours of live sport available for free across Channel 4, More4, the Channel 4 streaming platform, and Channel 4 Sport's YouTube channel. All content will be accessible with subtitles, and live peak-time sport on Channel 4 will feature closed audio description. Furthermore, live sport on More4 and the Channel 4 streaming platform during weekday afternoons will include live BSL signing.

This collaboration between Channel 4 and Snapchat promises to enhance the Paralympic Games experience for fans, offering an immersive and engaging way to witness the athletic achievements of Paralympic athletes.
