Chanel's Imaginary Garden: Ammy Drammeh's Summer 2024 Collection

The Chanel Beauty Summer 2024 collection, aptly titled "Jardin Imaginaire" (Imaginary Garden), has officially bloomed, bringing a fantastical twist to the world of makeup. This vibrant collection, dreamt up by makeup artist Ammy Drammeh, draws inspiration from fairy tale landscapes, where nature’s familiar elements are imbued with a touch of magic.

Drammeh's "Jardin Imaginaire" marks her debut as a member of Chanel’s esteemed Cometes Collective. Launched in late 2022, the collective is a curated group of rising makeup stars, each chosen for their unique vision and ability to shape the future of beauty. Joining Drammeh are Cécile Paravina and Valentina Li, all three working together to craft individual collections throughout 2024, sharing insights and pushing creative boundaries.

"I grew up listening to folk tales and fables from both my West African and Spanish sides of the family," says Drammeh, "The creation process for the Summer 2024 collection started with color; the color was the carrier of the story." She continues, "I remember being a teen and discovering *A Midsummer Night’s Dream

by Shakespeare. I found the cross-over between reality and illusion in the story was perfect as a starting point to illustrate some of my ideas. Then during the research process, we even discovered that the book was part of Gabrielle Chanel’s library.”

Drammeh’s collection is a bold departure from the typical Chanel color palette, while retaining the brand's signature refined aesthetic. She explains, "I felt that for my first collection, I should do something that felt true to myself. I thought about creating a collection with bold metallic colors that would serve as an accessory to the existing range of Chanel make-up. There is something very alluring about the little black dress and the idea of transforming a staple garment with the right accessory."

Indeed, "Jardin Imaginaire" is a collection brimming with bold, playful hues that can effortlessly elevate any look. Drammeh has introduced seven new shades to the coveted Stylo Ombre et Contour eyeshadow sticks, ranging from vibrant robin’s egg blue and acid lime to fiery tangerine and shimmering metallic violet.

The collection also features two new Baume Essential sticks: “Moonlight Kiss,” a pearlescent radiance enhancer for cheekbones, brow bones, and eyelids, and “Solar Glow,” a copper bronze shade that can be used as a subtle highlighter on darker skin tones and a contour tool on lighter complexions.

Adding a touch of summery glow, the Complexion Creation Blush and Highlighter Duos are available in two enchanting shades: “Gold and Peach,” a sunset-inspired palette for a subtle radiance, and “Light and Berry,” a delicate pink for a brighter, more youthful look.

No Chanel collection would be complete without new additions to the iconic Le Vernis nail polish line. The collection features a striking shimmering light green, reminiscent of the wings of a tropical insect, for those who dare to be bold. Subtler options include a translucent pearlescent rose shade and a rich, decadent chocolate brown. All shades are beautifully showcased in the campaign, with Lily-Rose Depp sporting the collection’s looks under Drammeh’s masterful hand.

Drammeh speaks with admiration of her fellow Cometes Collective members, emphasizing the power of collaboration: “Collaboration is at the core of the Cometes Collective," she shares, "The three of us were used to working alongside other creatives but never other make-up artists. Working with Cecile and Valentina has been enriching, fun and almost therapeutic. I am learning a great deal from both of them and I am excited to continue this exchange of knowledge with them."
