Catfish Star Breaks Neck in Bike Crash, Thanks Doctors for "Incredible" Care

Catfish presenter Nev Schulman has revealed that he suffered a broken neck in a bike crash involving a truck last week, expressing his gratitude for the medical team who saved him from potential paralysis.

The 39-year-old television personality, known for hosting the hit US series Catfish alongside Max Joseph, took to Instagram to share a series of photos and videos documenting the aftermath of the incident. The images show Schulman wearing a neck brace in hospital, along with an X-ray of his broken neck. Other clips depict him attempting to stand up with assistance, hugging his children, and showcasing the damage to his cycling helmet.

"It's true what they say - life can change in an instant," Schulman wrote in the accompanying post. "I never made it to pick up my son from school on the bike. In fact, in some ways, I'm glad I didn't. I was alone on impact. Me and the truck. And then I guess the pavement."

He described the harrowing moments following the crash, recounting how he was briefly knocked unconscious before regaining consciousness. Despite the severity of the injury, Schulman was fortunate to avoid permanent paralysis.

"I broke my neck, but my stable fractures won't leave me paralysed," he explained. "My hands were a question mark there for a minute, but the human body is incredible and so are HUMANS."

Schulman went on to express profound gratitude for the medical professionals who treated him, particularly the emergency unit and intensive care staff. "It's hard to feel sorry for myself when I hear from the doctors about how many people with similar injuries will never walk again," he reflected. "I'm lucky to be here, alive, standing and hugging my family, projected to make a full recovery. And I'm really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude."

The Catfish presenter, who shares three children with his wife Laura Perlongo, has risen to prominence for exposing individuals who deceive others online through fabricated dating profiles. Despite the harrowing experience, Schulman's positive outlook and appreciation for life are evident in his message, leaving fans hoping for a speedy recovery.
