Carpenter and Ortega Get "Taste" of Movie Mayhem in New Music Video

Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter and "Wednesday" star Jenna Ortega have teamed up for a darkly comedic music video for Carpenter's latest single, "Taste". The Dave Meyers-directed clip, released on Friday alongside Carpenter's new album "Short n' Sweet", sees the two actresses locked in a battle for the affections of a love interest played by "Halloween Ends" actor Rohan Campbell.

The video, a tongue-in-cheek homage to classic cinema, features Carpenter and Ortega repeatedly killing each other in scenes reminiscent of iconic films such as "Death Becomes Her" and "Psycho". Each murder, executed with a playful blend of absurdity and camp, serves as a morbidly humorous metaphor for the intensity of their rivalry.

Despite their initial animosity, Carpenter and Ortega eventually realise their ex-lover, now deceased, was the true villain. The video culminates with them attending his funeral, reflecting on his flaws and finding a shared sense of catharsis.

Carpenter describes their former flame as "clingy, lots of trauma", while Ortega adds, "Very insecure". The two share a moment of camaraderie, leaving the funeral arm-in-arm and clutching smoothies.

The music video for "Taste" showcases the duo's acting talents and showcases Carpenter's dynamic pop sensibility. It's a playful and visually arresting piece that blends dark humour and cinematic references to create a unique and entertaining viewing experience.

Carpenter herself revealed that "Short n' Sweet" was a reflection of the emotional ups and downs she experienced during the album's creation. In an Instagram post, she described the process as "one of the most special, honest, up and down, stupid and fun experiences of my life".

She explained that the album's title, "Short n' Sweet", was inspired by the brevity of some of the relationships she explored lyrically. "I think about the way that I respond to situations, and sometimes it is very nice and sometimes it's not very nice," she explained to Apple Music's Zane Lowe.

Carpenter's "Short n' Sweet" tour kicks off on 23 September, promising a continuation of the album's themes and musical energy.
