Cambridge Eatery Source to Feature on 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives'

Get ready to see a familiar face in "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" this week, as the bleach-blonde host Guy Fieri rolls into a Cambridge eatery. Source, a well-known establishment famed for its elevated pizzas crafted with locally sourced ingredients, will join a long list of Boston restaurants to grace the small screen on the long-running foodie road trip show.

Source, located in Harvard Square, joins the ranks of beloved Boston spots like Bagelsaurus, Cutty’s, and Trina’s Starlite Lounge, all of which have previously been featured on the show. The restaurant’s inclusion on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" follows a rigorous interview process, owner Daniel Roughan explained.

By May, filming was underway with the show’s crew and Fieri himself in the kitchen, filming the creation of their renowned pizzas and capturing diners enjoying a leisurely brunch. Appearing on the programme requires restaurants to showcase two dishes and reveal their recipes, prompting chef Brian Kevorkian to carefully choose which menu items not to divulge.

“I wanted to do [Brussels sprouts] on the show,” Kevorkian said, highlighting the popular vegetable small plate. “But when they said ‘you have to give us your full recipe,’ we couldn't do that dish. It's a closely guarded secret, with only one person in the restaurant knowing the recipe – me.”

The menu items chosen for their televised debut include the rum baba, a decadent brioche made using rum and French toast batter, a popular fixture on Source's brunch menu, and their signature pepperoni cup-topped pizza.

Each "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" episode spotlights three restaurants, and the upcoming episode featuring Source will also showcase an Italian restaurant in California and a breakfast café in Ohio. While the final edit remains unknown, Kevorkian revealed that he demonstrated Fieri how they craft their dough, discussed the rum baba's creation, and the segment will likely feature customers sharing positive feedback about the dishes and the restaurant.

When asked about their most memorable experience with Fieri and the crew, both Kevorkian and Roughan highlighted the team's friendly nature, particularly Fieri’s warm personality.

“It was a lot of fun just to have another person with that hyper, rapid-fire energy like I have, and to be in the kitchen with him,” Kevorkian said. “It created a great energy for the show.”

Fans of the show can catch "The Mayor of Flavortown" at Source in Cambridge this Friday at 9 p.m. ET on Food Network.
