Bollywood Star Faces Backlash After Smoking Video Surfaces, Contradicting Mother's Past Comments

Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon, known for her roles in films like *Bareilly Ki Barfi

and *Mimi*, has found herself at the centre of online controversy after a video of her smoking went viral. The incident has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many pointing out a past statement from her mother, Geeta Sanon, claiming Kriti was "anti-smoking".

Sanon, who recently celebrated her 34th birthday with a trip to the Greek island of Mykonos, was pictured and filmed enjoying the holiday with her sister, actress Nupur Sanon, and rumoured boyfriend Kabir Bahia. However, it was a video of her smoking at a beachside restaurant that attracted significant attention and criticism.

The video, shared on Reddit, sparked a wave of comments from users. Some expressed disappointment, accusing the actress of hypocrisy, while others defended her right to smoke during her vacation. One user commented, "Whatever she says in public, does totally opposite," while another argued, "I don't see your point. People smoke so what? She is on vacation, she can do anything she wants that is not illegal."

The controversy took a new turn when users unearthed an old tweet from Geeta Sanon, dating back to 2017. The tweet, responding to a picture of Kriti smoking on the set of *Bareilly Ki Barfi*, stated, "She has always been anti-smoking and used to ask people around her to leave smoking." This stark contrast to the recent video has fuelled the debate further, highlighting the perceived disconnect between public image and personal behaviour.

Despite the controversy, Sanon seems undeterred, posting a video on Instagram Stories showcasing her enjoying her time in Greece with her sister. The clip shows the sisters twinning in black attire, with a caption reading "Golden hour. Vibing with my boho baby."

On the professional front, Sanon recently starred in the multi-starrer *Crew

alongside Kareena Kapoor, Tabu, Diljit Dosanjh and Kapil Sharma. She is gearing up for the release of *Do Patti*, her debut production venture, co-starring Kajol.

The incident serves as a reminder that celebrities, despite their carefully crafted public personas, are not immune to scrutiny and criticism. The backlash highlights the increasing awareness of public figures' actions and the potential impact they have on their image and audience perception. It remains to be seen whether Sanon will address the controversy directly or choose to remain silent.
