BBC News Goes Free in Australia

BBC News Goes Free in Australia

The BBC has made its renowned news channel available for free live streaming in Australia, accessible through its app and website. Australians can now tune in to continuous live news coverage by selecting the "watch live" option on BBC.com or navigating to the "live" tab within the BBC app, anytime, anywhere.

This change comes as the highly respected 24/7 news channel is being removed from the Foxtel platform. As previously reported, four channels – BBC Earth, BBC News, CBeebies, and BBC First – are no longer available to Foxtel subscribers.

The new free BBC News service will provide Australians with comprehensive coverage of major global events, including the upcoming US election and the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Alongside its in-depth Olympic coverage, the BBC's TechXplore programme delves into the role of cutting-edge technology in athlete training, competition, and broadcasting.

The BBC News service also includes HARDtalk, a hard-hitting interview programme known for its challenging questions and in-depth analysis of the issues behind major headlines.

Fiona Lang, General Manager for BBC Studios Australia and New Zealand, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating: "We are thrilled to be offering our world-leading impartial, accurate and trusted BBC News channel to all Australians for free and in a way that complements their digital habits." She continued, "We look forward to welcoming new audiences and serving existing viewers with live coverage of the biggest news stories in the world, as well as more gems from the channel’s wide-ranging content."

With a reach extending to over 450 million households worldwide and broadcasts in more than 200 countries, the BBC News channel remains one of the most widely watched news networks globally. This move to free streaming in Australia further strengthens its position as a trusted and accessible source of news for viewers across the globe.
