£12,500 Final Fantasy 7 Lego Set Sells at Auction

£12,500 Final Fantasy 7 Lego Set Sells at Auction

Square Enix and Lego collaborated to create a special set commemorating one of the most iconic moments from Final Fantasy VII, and a recently sold auction demonstrates its significant value to collectors.

In January, Square Enix organised a fan vote to determine which scene from the seventh game would be immortalised in Lego form. The winning scene, depicting Cloud and Aerith's reunion within the Sector 5 slums' church, resulted in two impressive sets, each towering over 40 inches tall and spanning nearly 30 inches wide.

Square Enix gifted one of these meticulously crafted sets to a lucky fan through a giveaway, while the other was kept within the company. However, the latter recently found its way onto the Heritage Auctions website, where it sold for an eye-watering £12,500. This extraordinary price tag reflects the set's immense appeal to dedicated fans and collectors.

While one set was distributed through a giveaway, the other has remained within Square Enix's possession until now. The newly sold set has generated significant interest, with prospective buyers able to place bids starting at £16,250. This demonstrates the growing enthusiasm within the community for owning a piece of Final Fantasy VII history.

Although the Lego set's ultimate destination is uncertain, it's a testament to the enduring popularity of the iconic JRPG and the potential for fan-favourite moments to translate into highly sought-after collectables.

While the prospect of official Final Fantasy-themed Lego sets becoming available to the wider public for a more accessible price remains uncertain, fans can look forward to the third part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, which promises to surpass expectations and solidify its place in video game history.

Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Remake and Rebirth projects, has described the upcoming game as one that will "beat any expectation you have" and become "one of the most loved, most popular games in the whole history of video games."
