Technip Energies and Shell Catalysts & Technologies have announced an exclusive global alliance to deliver amine-based post-combustion carbon capture solutions using Shell's CANSOLV COâ Capture System. This expanded partnership builds upon a collaboration initiated in 2012, evolving to meet growing market demands and make carbon capture technology more accessible to a wider range of industries.
The agreement leverages the complementary strengths of both companies. Shell contributes its extensive technology licensing expertise, while Technip Energies provides its renowned project delivery capabilities. This combined approach aims to meet the escalating global need for scalable and effective carbon capture solutions across various industrial sectors. The partnership's primary objective is to deliver innovative and financially viable solutions for clients, ensuring projects are both technically sound and commercially attractive.
The alliance operates with integrated teams working closely with clients throughout the entire project lifecycle. This collaborative approach ensures seamless execution, from initial project conception to ongoing operational support and performance optimisation. This integrated model aims to minimise potential bottlenecks and maximise efficiency.
Christophe Malaurie, Technip Energies' SVP for decarbonisation solutions, commented: "We firmly believe that CCUS (carbon capture, utilisation and storage) will play a pivotal role in the energy transition. Our alliance offers a highly effective model to address the industry's evolving needs. By harnessing our combined expertise and unified approach, we are delivering investable solutions for global deployment today. Through continuous improvement, innovation and standardisation, we are actively shaping this burgeoning industry, and our Canopy by T.EN solutions, powered by Shellâs CANSOLV COâ technology, are a testament to this ongoing success."
Nick Flinn, Shell Catalysts & Technologies' general manager for decarbonisation, added: "Recognising the significant challenges in profitably and efficiently producing decarbonised energy, power and products, the Technip EnergiesâShell Catalysts & Technologies alliance is already providing industry-leading CCS (carbon capture and storage) solutions that deliver a sustainable, positive impact on our clients' facilities. By moving towards exclusivity, we are confident our alliance will significantly enhance the success of our clientsâ decarbonisation efforts at scale, shaping a pathway to a cleaner future and effectively meeting evolving market demands with advanced carbon-capture technology."
The announcement follows the June establishment of a carbon capture joint venture between SLB and Aker Carbon Capture, highlighting the growing momentum in the carbon capture sector. This intensified focus on CCUS technologies underscores the increasing importance of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions across various industries. The Technip Energies and Shell alliance aims to be a significant contributor to this crucial global effort. The collaborative model and focus on delivering commercially viable solutions suggest a potential for widespread adoption of their carbon capture technology, driving progress towards a lower-carbon future.
