Ramboll Expands Wind Expertise with K2 Management Acquisition
Danish engineering consultancy Ramboll has acquired fellow Danish firm K2 Management, a global consultancy specialising in wind and solar energy. The move, subject to regulatory approval, will bolster Ramboll's global wind division, expanding its reach to over 900 professionals across 20 countries. The acquisition will establish a new presence in Vietnam, Thailand, and Portugal.
Ramboll aims to reach over 1,000 employees within its global wind business by 2025, responding to the burgeoning demand in the global wind market.
"With offices on five continents, K2 Management already operates a cross-border approach to cater to the global need for high-end advisory to developers, lenders and investors in green energy. By joining Ramboll, we will deliver more innovative, holistic, and sustainable solutions," said Lars K Hammershøj, co-founder of K2 Management.
The acquisition will allow Ramboll to offer a comprehensive suite of services across all stages of wind energy projects. By combining Ramboll's expertise in design and execution with K2 Management's knowledge in strategic advisory and project development, the firm aims to become a global leader in wind energy.
"By merging Ramboll's decade-long engineering and design skills in wind projects with K2 Management's leading role in project development and strategic advisory, our clear ambition is to create a true global leader that is well-positioned to support our clients in all phases of wind energy projects globally," stated Tim Fischer, Director of Ramboll's global wind division. He added: "It is no secret that talent is scarce in these highly specialised areas, which is why welcoming such a great team of experts to Ramboll all at once is a major milestone."
Ramboll's wind division has been rapidly expanding over the past three years, growing annually by approximately 25%, and expanding its global footprint with new offices in the US, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Japan, Korea, and Australia. The company has transitioned from a primary foundation designer to a full-service wind consultancy encompassing advisory and engineering services.
In recent news, Ramboll was selected as the foundation designer for the Gennaker offshore wind project in Germany. This acquisition reflects the firm's commitment to supporting the growth of the wind industry, which is crucial for meeting global climate targets.
The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) highlights the urgent need to accelerate wind energy growth, aiming for annual installations to triple to at least 320 GW over the next decade. This target aligns with the COP28 goal of tripling renewable energy capacity.
This acquisition marks a significant step forward for Ramboll's wind division, strengthening its position as a leading player in the global wind market. By combining its expertise with K2 Management's capabilities, Ramboll is well-positioned to contribute to the accelerated development of the wind sector and meet the growing global demand for clean energy solutions.
