Oxford Rail Passengers Urged to Check Before Travelling This Weekend

Network Rail is undertaking crucial maintenance and upgrades in and around Oxford this weekend, impacting rail services.

Passengers travelling through Oxford are being advised to check their journeys before departing, as Network Rail carries out essential maintenance and upgrades on the railway over the weekend of 22-23 July.

The work will focus on several key areas, including:

Culham Track Replacement: A significant section of track between Oxford and Didcot Parkway will be replaced, covering a distance of 350 metres (1,148ft). This essential replacement will ensure the continued smooth operation of the line.

Oxfordshire Connect Station Expansion: The ongoing station expansion programme continues, with teams working to install cable route ducting and drainage, as well as removing an access ramp on platform 3. This work aims to improve accessibility and overall functionality of the station.

North of Oxford Works: Beyond Oxford, works will continue until 31 July between Bicester and Leamington Spa, including:

Replacing a railway bridge over the River Cherwell near Banbury.

Upgrades to the railway and drainage system at Banbury Station.

Mark Park, from Network Rail, emphasized the importance of these works: "Throughout the weekend, there will be a hive of activity, with a mixture of crucial maintenance and upgrades to enhance the railway for the future, taking place side by side in and around Oxford Station." He stressed the need for passengers to be informed: "Passengers are advised to check before they travel while we carry out this essential work."

Billy White, Oxford station manager, apologised for any inconvenience caused by the works: "We would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience while this essential works takes place." He confirmed that bus replacements will be operating between Didcot and Oxford on both Saturday and Sunday to ensure continued connectivity during the track closures.

Network Rail encourages passengers to use their journey planner tools to check for potential disruption and bus replacement schedules before setting out. This will ensure a smooth and informed travel experience during the weekend works.
