NYK, a leading Japanese shipping company, has showcased its commitment to decarbonisation at the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) ministerial meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia.
On August 21st, Akira Kono, Representative Director and Executive Vice President of NYK, participated in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony alongside top management from Japanese companies and Ken Saito, Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. The session highlighted decarbonisation initiatives and partnerships between Japan and other AZEC member nations.
NYK presented two key decarbonisation projects with AZEC partner countries:
A collaboration with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to advance maritime sustainability, digitalisation, and manpower development.
An MOU with Pertamina International Shipping, an Indonesian state-owned subsidiary, focusing on cooperation in liquefied CO2, LNG transportation, and ship management.
AZEC, a collaboration between Japan, Australia, and nine ASEAN countries (excluding Myanmar), is committed to accelerating decarbonisation across Asia. The Jakarta meeting marked the second AZEC ministerial gathering, featuring a dedicated MOU session to showcase cooperative projects between Japan and its AZEC partners.
