MG Astor Revamped: Hybrid Powertrain, Redesigned Look for Global Debut
MG Motor is set to unveil the next generation of its popular ZS model on August 28th, with a hybrid powertrain and a fresh exterior design. This new model will initially launch in European markets, including the UK and Australia, with a potential Indian release in 2025 under the familiar MG Astor name.
The new ZS Hybrid+ is expected to share its powertrain with the MG3, featuring a petrol engine coupled with an electric motor powered by a 1.83 kWh battery pack. This configuration allows for short bursts of pure electric driving. While the Hybrid+ is currently the sole engine option for the MG3, the new ZS is anticipated to also offer a turbo-petrol variant and a dedicated all-electric model. Should all these variants reach India, it's likely the turbo-petrol and hybrid models will be sold as the MG Astor, leaving the ZS name for the pure EV.
The exterior design has received a substantial makeover. The teaser images reveal a redesigned front fascia, with a wider grille replacing the previous "celestial" design. This new grille is flanked by larger, more prominent air intakes. The ZS's overall silhouette has also been refined, with a more tapered roofline.
The front end boasts new, more aggressive LED headlamps, connected by a thin chrome strip that stretches across the top of the grille. The rear end has been updated as well, with fresh LED taillamps, a sharper tailgate, and a new bumper with a skid plate.
While interior images have yet to be released, MG is expected to upgrade the ZS's cabin with premium materials and a suite of advanced technology and convenience features.
The upcoming global unveiling on August 28th promises to showcase the MG ZS's significant evolution. With its new hybrid powertrain, sleek design, and anticipated technological advancements, the car is poised to make its mark in the increasingly competitive global market.
