Indosat and Huawei Enhance Indonesia's Connectivity with Network Consolidation
Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Indonesia's leading digital telco, has successfully completed a major core network consolidation project in Jakarta, partnering with global ICT solutions provider Huawei. This project marks a significant step forward in their collaboration, aimed at advancing and innovating mobile communication technologies.
With over 100 million users and 26 core locations across Indonesia, Indosat managed to complete the consolidation and transition to a cloud core in just 14 months - a remarkable achievement. This project has significantly enhanced the network experience for Indosat users nationwide, particularly those in rural and remote areas. Residents of Kalimantan now enjoy a 15% increase in average download speed and an 11% decrease in round trip time (RTT) when using Facebook. Additionally, customers in Central Java are experiencing improved performance for online gaming and live video streaming.
Setting New Standards
Desmond Cheung, Director and Chief Technology Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, expressed his pride in setting a new standard within the telecommunications industry. "This core network consolidation project demonstrates our commitment to delivering a world-class digital experience for our customers. By completing this initiative, we aim to consistently provide an exceptional service to our customers while working towards our goal of connecting and empowering every Indonesian," he stated.
George Gao, President of Huawei Cloud Core Network Product Line, echoed these sentiments. "We are delighted to see the successful completion of this large-scale and complex network consolidation project in such a short timeframe, thanks to our close collaboration with Indosat. Huawei will continue to support Indosat in enhancing network connectivity, accelerating service innovation, and creating industry value in digital transformation to achieve greater business success," he added.
Overcoming Challenges
The project showcases the technological expertise, dedication, and teamwork of both Indosat and Huawei in overcoming numerous challenges. As the core network is a critical component of a mobile network, both teams worked tirelessly to analyse and review solutions for network consolidation, ensuring adherence to the "first-time-right" philosophy.
Embracing Cutting-Edge Technology
By leveraging cutting-edge telco cloud-native technology, Indosat and Huawei have introduced both bare metal container and innovative dual-engine container solutions, supporting the large-scale commercial use of 5G core networks. The dual-engine container solution integrates virtual machines (VMs) and containers within a unified infrastructure platform, enabling Indosat to seamlessly introduce containers through capacity expansion, reducing service rollout time and time-to-market (TTM).
Building a Future-Proof Network
In the era of intelligence and digitalization, Indosat's demand for intelligence and superior user experience has increased. Indosat and Huawei have collaborated to deploy future-proof core networks that can adapt to the intelligent and hyper-distributed architecture of 5G-A. This not only addresses current network requirements but also lays the foundation for introducing new 5G features and services for both consumer and business users.
Looking Ahead
Moving forward, Indosat and Huawei will continue their partnership to build a more intelligent, efficient, and secure mobile communication network in Indonesia, providing a better service experience for users. They will collaborate to address industry challenges and promote the continuous development and innovation of Indonesia's mobile communication technologies.
