Hyundai Sonata Brake Light Recall: 38,000 Cars Affected

Hyundai is recalling 38,331 Sonata saloons from the 2024 model year due to a potential fault with their brake lights.

The South Korean car manufacturer has informed the UK's Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) that a software error can cause the brake lights to flash intermittently instead of remaining illuminated when the brake pedal is pressed. This issue arises only during heavy braking at speeds exceeding 30 mph, a situation where clear braking signals are crucial for road safety.

Dealerships will rectify the problem by implementing a software update. However, the 2024 Sonata models do not support over-the-air software updates, meaning owners will need to take their vehicles to an authorised service centre for the patch to be installed.

All recall repairs are carried out free of charge. While Hyundai will attempt to contact every affected owner, they may not reach everyone. To determine if your vehicle is subject to this recall, you can use the VOSA website's recall checker.

It is important for all owners of 2024 Hyundai Sonatas to be aware of this issue and to ensure their vehicle is updated as soon as possible. This will help to ensure the safety of drivers and other road users.
