Grimace Shake: US Cult Classic Hits UK McDonald's, But Only for a Week!

McDonald's has launched a limited-time-only treat, the Grimace Shake, across all UK restaurants today, giving Brits a taste of a US cult favourite. The purple-hued shake, made with blueberry-flavoured syrup and a creamy milkshake base, has already caused a stir in the US and is now making its UK debut.

The Grimace Shake is inspired by McDonald's iconic purple mascot, Grimace, who first appeared in the 1970s. Originally depicted as an evil character who stole milkshakes, Grimace has since been rebranded as a more friendly cartoon.

The new shake will set you back £2.69 for a medium or £2.99 for a large, though prices may vary slightly depending on location. Fans can also order the Grimace Shake online through McDelivery, UberEats and Deliveroo, but delivery charges will apply.

However, those hoping to try this sweet treat will need to act quickly, as the Grimace Shake is only available for a limited period, disappearing from menus on September 4th.

The drink's US launch last June was a huge success, going viral on TikTok and sparking a frenzy amongst milkshake lovers. This year, the Grimace Shake made its way to Canada in May and now it's the UK's turn to experience the hype.

The Grimace Shake isn't the only new addition to the McDonald's menu. The fast-food giant is also bringing back its infamous Monopoly game, giving customers the chance to win food prizes and other rewards.

Participants can collect stickers from their food packaging that represent train stations or colour-coordinated road names, just like the classic board game. Each sticker carries a different value, determining the type of prize you can redeem.

To coincide with the return of Monopoly, a selection of popular menu items are also making a comeback, including Mozzarella Dippers, the Philly Cheese Stack, the Chicken Big Mac, Galaxy Chocolate McFlurry, and the Twix Chocolate McFlurry.

McDonald's is also introducing a brand new Twix Latte, featuring chocolate cream and syrup.

This menu shakeup, with the return of Monopoly and the introduction of new items, will take effect on September 4th and run for six weeks.

Saving Money at McDonald's

While McDonald's might seem like an affordable option, it's worth remembering that prices can vary depending on the specific restaurant location. Research by The Sun has revealed that a Big Mac meal can be up to 30p cheaper at locations just two miles apart.

Those looking for a good deal can also pick up a Big Mac and fries for just £2.99 by completing a feedback survey found on McDonald's receipts. The receipt should contain a 12-digit code which can be entered into the Food for Thought website alongside your survey. You'll then receive a five-digit code which can be used as a voucher for the £2.99 offer.

Lastly, be mindful of the various delivery apps and platforms when ordering from McDonald's. Our research has shown that some services can charge up to £1.20 more than others. So, before placing your order, compare prices across different platforms to secure the best deal.
