Thando Thabethe is a true powerhouse, having conquered every corner of the media industry. From acting and radio broadcasting to TV presenting, she has consistently excelled, earning a coveted spot among DRUM's Top 50 women. But Thabethe's success story doesn't end there. She has expanded her impressive resume to include reality TV star, executive producer, media company owner, and founder of the luxury loungewear brand, Thabootys.

In an exclusive interview, Thabethe sheds light on her remarkable journey from rising star to formidable businesswoman. While many know her as a radio powerhouse, few may realise that her acting career began even before she entered the studio.

"I started acting in school and in my first year of university, I landed my first TV role on 'My Perfect Family'. That role changed everything for me," she shares. The show's success, spanning three seasons, marked a pivotal moment in her television career.

Embracing a New Level of Responsibility

Thabethe's focus has shifted towards the business side of things in recent years.

"Starting my own business brought a new level of responsibility. Being an employer means you're responsible for the livelihoods of others. The success of the business becomes crucial, not just for you, but for the people who depend on it. It changes your perspective and pushes you to succeed," she reflects.

Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to venture into reality TV with her own show, "The Unstoppable Thabooty," where she took on the role of executive producer. "It was fantastic! Producing the TV show was a step forward in my career, allowing me to explore new aspects of the industry," she says.

Despite her numerous roles, from actress to businesswoman to producer, Thabethe's days are far from monotonous. "Every day is different. Some days are filled with meetings, others with shoots, radio shows, or time on set. It's never just one thing, and that's what makes it exciting."

Resilience in the Face of Fame

When asked about the pressures of fame, Thabethe shrugs off the rumour mill. "I don't pay attention to rumours. Life is a jungle, but it's up to you to find a way out of any funk. It's not always smooth sailing, but resilience is key."

Currently, Thabethe is deeply involved in several projects, pushing the boundaries of her production company, Dream Landing Pictures. "We're working on both scripted and non-scripted projects. I'm also on set for a series I can't mention yet," she reveals.

Thabootys continues to flourish, recently launching a bridal wear line featuring customisable sleepwear and lingerie for brides-to-be. Meanwhile, Redwood Media, her textile production company, is thriving.

As a woman who has shattered multiple glass ceilings, Thabethe's advice to other women aspiring to do the same is to follow their passion. "When you do, everything else falls into place. And never underestimate the power of good old hard work – it gets the job done," she concludes.
