Fenwick, the UK's largest family-owned department store group, has announced the appointment of Nigel Blow as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 2024. Blow, currently CEO at London's Morleys department store chain, brings extensive retail experience to the role, having held senior positions at some of the UK's most iconic retailers.
This appointment marks the departure of current CEO John Edgar, who is stepping down after four and a half years at the helm. Sian Westerman, Fenwick Chair, expressed her gratitude for Edgar's contributions, highlighting his successful navigation of the business through the COVID-19 pandemic and his leadership in developing Fenwick's online platform, restaurant offering, and key stores, including Newcastle's flagship location and the Kingston branch.
Westerman expressed excitement about Blow's arrival, stating that his vast retail knowledge and experience, particularly as CEO of Morleys, will be invaluable in guiding Fenwick into its next phase of growth. Blow's career boasts a diverse array of senior leadership positions, including Managing Director at Turnball & Asser, CEO and Chairman of Arnotts, CEO of Brown Thomas, and an impressive 15-year tenure as Chief Merchant at Harrods from 1992 to 2007.
Blow's appointment comes amidst a period of transformation for Fenwick, who last year sold its Bond Street store to reinvest in its Newcastle flagship and digital strategy. This strategic shift also includes expansion in areas like their restaurant offering, signifying a commitment to diversification and evolving customer needs. With eight stores across the UK and a robust online presence, Fenwick is poised to continue its journey of growth and innovation under Blow's leadership.
