DS Unveils Electric Flagship: 2025 DS 8 Blends Sedan and Crossover

DS Automobiles, the premium French brand owned by Stellantis, is making a bold statement with its upcoming 2025 DS 8. This innovative model combines the sleekness of a sedan with the practicality of a crossover, offering a unique proposition in the burgeoning electric vehicle market.

While DS Automobiles may be less familiar to UK audiences, its ambition to rival the likes of Audi and BMW is clear. As the brand transitions to a purely electric and plug-in hybrid line-up by next year, the DS 8 represents a crucial addition to its portfolio.

Spy shots reveal a distinctive silhouette, marrying the spaciousness of a crossover with the elegant lines of a four-door saloon. The DS 8 boasts a generous ground clearance, hinting at its off-road capability, while a tailgate provides ample cargo space.

Up front, the DS 8 features sleek, LED headlamps, a simple bumper with faux side vents, and a prominent central intake. Its side profile is characterised by a flowing beltline and an arched roofline, which, despite impacting boot space, promises ample headroom for rear passengers.

At the rear, the DS 8's design is equally striking. A prominent tailgate, positioned high brake light, and slim taillamps create a unique visual signature. The integrated rear door handles within the thick rear pillars offer a sleek, minimalist aesthetic, while the flush-fitting front door handles further enhance the car's clean lines.

Technical details indicate the DS 8 will be built upon Stellantis' STLA Medium platform, a versatile architecture designed for C and D segment vehicles. This platform underpins a variety of popular models, including the Peugeot e-3008 and e-5008, the Opel Grandland, Citroen C5 Aircross, and the Jeep Compass. It also serves as the foundation for upcoming models from other Stellantis brands, including a new DS model in 2026, a fresh Opel in the same year, a potential Alfa Romeo Giulietta from 2028, and a new Lancia Delta.

The STLA Medium platform's versatility allows for both single and dual-motor configurations, suggesting that the DS 8 will offer varying levels of performance. While the car is still in its final stages of development, its launch is anticipated next year, with sales expected to commence in 2025.

The DS 8's unique blend of design and technology represents a significant step forward for DS Automobiles as it navigates the evolving electric vehicle landscape. The brand's ambitious plans to challenge established premium players like Audi and BMW are further solidified with this innovative model, promising an exciting future for DS in the years to come.
