Divine Coffee: New York City Centre Shop to Brew Up a Storm

York city centre is set to get a divine new addition this month, as a specialist coffee shop prepares to open its doors. The Divine Project, a collaboration between the owners of North South bar and Divine Coffee Roasters, will offer "freshly roasted, genuinely good coffee" at 22-24 Market Street.

The shop, previously home to Toymaster and before that, The Early Learning Centre, marks a new chapter for Rich and Laura Taylor, owners of the popular North South bar in Bootham. North South, established in 2019, was their first venture into business ownership.

Laura explained the inspiration behind The Divine Project: "It's a specialist coffee shop, focusing on fresh, locally roasted coffee. We want it to be a hub for anyone wanting to buy coffee to brew at home, or to simply enjoy with us."

The shop will offer a range of tempting treats alongside its signature coffee. Freshly baked pastries, generously filled sandwiches, and locally sourced cakes will be available throughout the day.

"We don't plan to have an alcohol licence," Laura clarified, "however we may host special events from time to time."

The Divine Project is set to open its doors on Saturday, 17th August, with opening hours of 8am to 6pm. Work is currently underway to transform the empty premises into a welcoming coffee haven.

The news of the new coffee shop is sure to be welcomed by York residents and visitors alike. The city centre has seen a number of changes in recent years, with the closure of The Early Learning Centre in 2015, followed by the closure of Toymaster, which sold children's toys. The Divine Project promises to inject a vibrant, aromatic energy into the heart of York, offering a fresh and inviting space for coffee lovers to gather and enjoy a delicious brew.
