Crumpet Crisis: Morrisons, Waitrose & Hovis Bread Products Recalled Due to Metal Contamination

Rathbones Kear, a major bread supplier, has issued a recall for a range of crumpets sold at Morrisons and Waitrose, due to the potential presence of small metal pieces. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has advised consumers not to eat any affected products, as they pose a safety risk.

The following products are subject to the recall:

Morrisons:

Morrisons The Best Crumpets with Sourdough: Six-pack, with best before dates of 6th and 7th August 2024.

Morrisons Savers Crumpets: Six-pack, with best before dates of 6th and 7th August 2024.

Morrisons Crumpets: Six-pack, with best before dates of 6th and 7th August 2024.

Waitrose:

Hovis Crumpets: Six-pack, with best before dates of 6th and 7th August 2024.

Rathbones Kear has confirmed that no other products are affected by this issue. They have apologised for any inconvenience caused and reassured customers of their commitment to maintaining high standards of product quality and safety.

The FSA has urged consumers who have purchased any of the recalled crumpets to return them to their nearest store for a full refund, regardless of whether they have a receipt.

Point-of-sale notices have been placed in all retail stores selling these products, informing customers about the recall and providing guidance on returning the affected items.

The FSA's announcement comes as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and protect consumers from potentially harmful products. They regularly issue product withdrawal and recall notices to inform the public about any issues with food products. In some cases, they may also issue "Food Alerts for Action", providing specific instructions for local authorities to take action on behalf of consumers.

This recent recall highlights the importance of checking product labels and adhering to food safety guidelines. Consumers are advised to remain vigilant and to contact the relevant retailer or manufacturer in case of any concerns about food products.
