BrowserStack Snaps Up German Bug Reporting Firm Bird Eats Bug for £16 Million

Software testing platform BrowserStack has acquired Berlin-based enterprise tech company Bird Eats Bug for £16 million. The deal, which includes a mix of cash and shares, also promises future investment in product development.

BrowserStack aims to leverage Bird Eats Bug's innovative technology to streamline bug reporting processes and eliminate the need for fragmented testing toolchains. This acquisition marks the company's fifth since 2020, following the purchases of Percy, AutomatePro, Nightwatch.js, Quail, and Testfairy.

Bird Eats Bug, now rebranded as "Bug Capture by BrowserStack", offers a SaaS platform that accelerates code debugging by an average of 30%.

"By integrating Bug Capture's approach to bug reporting into our platform, we're boosting development teams' productivity," commented BrowserStack co-founder and CEO Ritesh Arora. "This will allow them to focus more on building exceptional products and less on managing the complexities of the testing process."

Dan Makarov, co-founder and CEO of Bird Eats Bug, expressed his enthusiasm for the joint future with BrowserStack. "It's hard to imagine two products that would be a better fit," he stated. "My co-founder, Jacky Chung, and I have been highly impressed by the quality of the BrowserStack team and their ambitious vision."

Founded in 2020, Bird Eats Bug boasts over 30,000 users and secured £1.3 million in seed funding led by Nauta Capital in 2021.

BrowserStack, established in 2011 by Arora and Nakul Aggarwal, provides a platform for software testing across various devices and browsers. The company claims profitability since its inception and has expanded its portfolio to include over 15 products, ten of which have been launched in the past 18 months.

In 2021, BrowserStack raised £160 million in a round led by US-based investment firm BOND, valuing the company at £3.2 billion.

This acquisition arrives amidst legal challenges for BrowserStack. In April, Deque Systems filed a lawsuit against BrowserStack in a US court, alleging intellectual property theft.

BrowserStack's Indian subsidiary saw its standalone net profit surge by 52% to INR 114 crore (approximately £11.5 million) in the financial year 2022-23, compared to INR 75 crore (approximately £7.6 million) in the previous year. Operating revenue also jumped by 46% year-on-year to INR 612 crore (approximately £62 million) in the fiscal year ended March 2023.
