Turkish renewable energy firm Akfen Renewable Energy is set to bolster its wind farm capacity with a new deal with German turbine manufacturer Nordex Group. The agreement will see Nordex supply and install 102 megawatts (MW) of wind turbine capacity across five existing wind farms in Türkiye.
The project, which will commence in autumn 2025, will involve the installation of 19 turbines from Nordex's Delta4000 series. These will be deployed across five existing wind farms, including the Hasanoba and Kocalar sites in northwestern Türkiye, each receiving five N149/5.X turbines. In addition, Akfen will receive nine N133/4800 turbines for the Denizli wind farm in western Türkiye, the Sarıtepe site in the south, and the Ãçpınar farm in the northwest.
The agreement includes a 10-year premium service contract for the turbines, with an option for Akfen to extend the service for a further five years. While the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, the expansion represents a significant investment in Türkiye's renewable energy sector.
Ender Ãzatay, vice president of Nordex Group for the Türkiye and Middle East region, highlighted the significance of the deal, stating: "Akfen Renewable Energy choosing to work with us for the first time on five projects to increase the capacity of their existing wind farms is a clear sign of their trust in us." He added that the chosen turbines are "highly efficient" and "can cater to almost any wind and geographical conditions."
Mustafa Kemal Güngör, general manager of Akfen Renewable Energy, emphasized the project's importance in the company's mission for a carbon-neutral future. "This contract represents a significant step forward in our mission to contribute to a carbon-neutral world," he said. Güngör expressed optimism about the collaboration with Nordex, stating: "We look forward to working closely with Nordex to bring this project to fruition, setting new benchmarks for excellence in the renewable energy industry."
Akfen Renewable Energy is a prominent player in the Turkish renewable energy sector, boasting a diverse portfolio of approximately 700 MW of hydro, wind, and solar power generation spread across 18 provinces. The company strategically positions its facilities in regions with the most suitable natural resources for each technology.
This agreement underscores Akfen's commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio and contributing to Türkiye's growing reliance on clean energy sources. The project also highlights Nordex's continued commitment to the Turkish market, demonstrating the company's capabilities in providing high-quality, flexible wind turbine solutions for diverse locations.
