Apple Music Lands on ChatGPT — How to Use the App Now
- Apple Music is available as an app inside ChatGPT for subscribers.
- The integration lets ChatGPT search Apple Music and build playlists via natural language, but it does not stream full songs in-chat.
- To use it, visit chatgpt.com/apps, add the Apple Music app, and connect your Apple Music account.
- Apple Music samples appear in ChatGPT; an active Apple Music subscription is required.
What the Apple Music app on ChatGPT does
The new Apple Music app for ChatGPT lets subscribers ask OpenAI’s model to search Apple Music, compile playlists, and add tracks directly to a user’s Apple Music account using conversational prompts.
You can request playlists by mood, era, or very specific constraints — for example, ask for a 30-song rock-and-roll Christmas playlist that avoids clichés, and ChatGPT will assemble and add it on Apple Music.
What it does not do
This integration is not a full music player inside ChatGPT. You will not stream complete songs in-chat; instead ChatGPT can show Apple Music previews (samples) and manage content on your Apple Music account.
If you want to listen to full tracks you’ll still need to use the Apple Music app or a compatible player once ChatGPT adds the playlist or identifies songs.
How to set it up
- Go to chatgpt.com/apps or open the Apps section in ChatGPT.
- Select the Apple Music app from the list.
- Sign in and connect your Apple Music account to authorize ChatGPT to search and create playlists.
After connecting, start prompts with "/Apple Music" or pick the Apple Music app from the selector. In many cases ChatGPT will automatically use Apple Music when it’s relevant to your request, so you do not need to prefix every query.
Using natural language to find hard-to-describe tracks
One of the biggest advantages is discoverability. You can describe a song vaguely — for example, referencing a scene in a movie or humming-syllable descriptions — and ChatGPT will try to identify the song on Apple Music and add it to a playlist.
Subscription and limits
Apple Music access requires an active subscription. As of rollout, Apple’s individual plan is priced in the US and typically includes a one-month free trial for new subscribers. ChatGPT will only be able to manage music for accounts you authorize.
Why this matters
The integration blends Apple Music’s catalog with ChatGPT’s natural-language capabilities, making playlist creation and discovery faster and more intuitive for subscribers. It’s a workflow improvement rather than a replacement for Apple Music’s listening apps, and it may change how users build and curate libraries going forward.
