Growing or cultivating and using vegetables, fruits, and medicinal plants in the open yard, attic and balcony around the house is called 'Kitchen Garden'.

Horticulture is of paramount importance in our daily lives.  In addition to essential nutrients, vegetables and fruits are rich in salts and parasites that provide health as well as immunity for vegetarian human life.  Currently, the land is declining day by day due to industrial development and population growth.  Therefore, despite the high prices, fresh and good quality vegetables and fruits are not available and there is a possibility of excess residues of chemicals such as chemical fertilizers and pesticides or toxic salts in the sewer water.  In such circumstances, we have to cultivate homegrown vegetables and fruits for natural (organic) preparation as per the pollution-free requirement.

In addition to this, by cultivating special common herbs like Tulsi, Mint, Aloe vera, Kariyatu as well as fragrant crops like Rose, Mogro, Lemongrass, etc. in the yard, it is useful to maintain the health of our body and mind through medicinal and aromatic crops.

Horticulture in the backyard:

  • Freshly prepared vegetables, fruits, and herbs can be obtained according to the needs of the family according to different seasons.
  • The space around the house can be kept clean, beautiful, and pollution-free.
  • Home use water and other natural waste can be used wisely.
  • Household expenses can be saved as vegetables, fruits, etc. are sold in the market at very high prices.
  • All the members of the family are acquainted with various horticultural crops such as seasonal vegetables, fruits, medicinal plants, etc., their lifespan, farming methods, and other useful information.
  • Time can be put to good use and physical health also maintains the health of the body.
  • The aroma of different kinds of decorative and fragrant flowers enhances the decoration of the house.
  • Fruits, flowers, vegetables, herbs can be obtained through the medium of devotion and Shramayagna Pooja-Abhishek by darshan of ‘Ranchhod in the plant’ at home.

Basics for growing home gardening crops:

  • Instead of growing vegetables, fruits, flowers, and medicinal plants, there should be enough sunlight during the day.
  • Each crop should be planted at the recommended time and distance.
  • Irrigation facilities and drainage should be provided and the kitchen garden should be kept weed-free at all times.
  • To plan regular planting of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs throughout the year.
  • Insist on using guaranteed vegetable seeds, healthy fruit cuttings, and seedlings of good medicinal plants.
  • It is advisable to use organic fertilizers, organic fertilizers, kitchen waste, etc.
  • Arrange the beds in such a way that seasonal crops can be sown.
  • Planting and climbing vine crops on trees, terraces, or fencing as per requirement.
  • Keep small compost peat in the corner of the backyard garden so that garden waste, grass, and leaves can be thrown into it and used as compost.
  • To take tillage, fertilizer, water, and crop protection measures as required.
  • It is important to keep small tools like spade, toothpick, hoe, pliers, spray pump, etc. useful for garden cultivation.

Soil and Soil preparation:

Horticultural crops are well suited to well-drained, loamy, or medium loamy soils.  Adding organic manure and silt to the home soil increases the yield.  Plowing or cultivating the soil well to make the soil fertile and level.  Then make a plan of appropriate size in it and make a plan - take out a plan.

Fruit planning:

Fruits like papaya, banana, lemon, guava, custard apple, pomegranate, etc. can be taken.
